The Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District currently serves over 13,000 students in Livermore. Livermore schools were established in the late 1800s, including Livermore High School, founded in 1891.
Because of growth, Livermore has opened several new schools, mainly in North Livermore where new housing developments have been completed. In 2005 Livermore the Valley Charter School was founded. It has since closed, with all of the students diverted to Lawrence Elementary School.
