Castlewood is a Pleasanton CA real estate neighborhood nestled in the hills of West Pleasanton surrounding Castlewood Country Club, a private country club. This scenic area features a blend of older and newer single family homes in a wooded golf course setting. Homes for sale in Castlewood generally range from 2000 sq ft to well over 5000 sq ft. Lots range from 1/4 acre to over 1 acre. Many of the original Castlewood available homes for sale were built in the late 1960's and early 1970's, with several newer homes sprinkled throughout.
Castlewood is best known for its incredible golf course setting and stunning views of the valley and the Pleasanton ridge. Mature oaks trees abound, and the majestic hills create a fabulous setting that sets this area apart. Castlewood is actually located in the county, and has its own water supply.
The clubhouse was originally the estate of Phoebe Apperson Hearst of the famous Hearst family, although it burned down 1969 and subsequently rebuilt. Many of the early homes in Castlewood were actually summer homes of the San Francisco and Oakland elite. It has a fascinating history, and was the precursor to the famous Hearst Castle at San Simeon.
​​​​​​​There are two golf courses in Castlewood Country Club. The hills course is located adjacent to the club house, and meanders through the scenic hills and home sites. The valley course is located below on the East side of Foothill Road.
